St. Olaf College
St. Olaf College is a private liberal arts college located in Northfield, Minnesota, founded in 1874 by Norwegian-American Lutheran immigrants. The campus spans about 300 acres, including restored wetlands, woodlands, and tallgrass prairie. It operates on a 4‑1‑4 academic calendar, meaning students do a short “January term” between semesters.
St. Olaf’s mission is rooted in the liberal arts, faith and values, and global engagement, combining rigorous academics with community-oriented living. Nearly all students (95%) live on campus, fostering a tight-knit residential community. The college highly values study abroad / off-campus study: in 2023–24, 621 students studied in more than 40 countries, and about 70% of the class of 2025 participated in at least one study abroad or away program.
St. Olaf also has a strong tradition in the arts: it’s home to the Flaten Art Museum, which houses over 4,000 works.
