Eastern mediterranean university
History & Vision
Eastern Mediterranean University was founded in 1979 in Famagusta (Northern Cyprus), originally as a technology institute. Over time, it has transformed into a full-fledged, internationally focused comprehensive university. Its mission is to provide high-quality education and research opportunities in a multicultural setting, with many programs taught in English.
Academic Culture & Programs
EMU has 12 faculties and 5 schools, covering a broad range: engineering, architecture, business, medicine, health sciences, humanities, law, and more. Many of its programs are internationally accredited (e.g., ABET, MIAK). The architecture department, for example, has CAD labs, model-making labs, design research centers, and other specialized facilities.
Internationalization & Student Life
One of EMU’s defining features is its highly international student body: tens of thousands of students from over 100 countries. This creates a very multicultural campus. EMU emphasizes extracurricular life — it has a culture and congress center, a large sports complex, a beach club, and many student clubs.
Campus & Facilities
The EMU campus is large and well-equipped, including: dormitories, a health center, library, many cafeterias, ATMs and social spaces. The Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center is a centerpiece for cultural events.
For students, there is robust support: psychological counseling, student services, and a modern campus map to navigate all the facilities.
