Brandeis University
Brandeis University is a private research university located in Waltham, Massachusetts (about 9 miles west of Boston).
Founded in 1948, it was named in honor of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis.
Brandeis blends a liberal arts educational approach with strong research activity (it is classified as "R1: Doctoral – Very high research activity"). The campus spans 235 acres and has over 100 academic and residential buildings.
Academically, Brandeis has multiple schools: Arts & Humanities; Business & Economics; Science, Engineering & Technology; Social Sciences & Social Policy; and Continuing Studies. It offers 43 majors and 51 minors. The student-to-faculty ratio is very favorable (~ 9:1).
The university places a strong emphasis on global engagement: through its Global Brandeis initiative, there are many study abroad programs, international scholars, and global centers. Historically, it has welcomed international students since early on via programs like the Wien International Scholarship Program, which brought students from developing countries.
Campus life includes 200+ student clubs, and there are 19 varsity sports. The Rose Art Museum, located on campus, is a major cultural resource showcasing modern and contemporary art.
